What my Students said our meetings did for them:

  • In our home there is no more power use. We consider everyones needs at the same level. We are partners and I feel so free and I’ve also got back my “me time” too!
  • Finally my kids are excited to have a “family time” together again! Before we could never get to an agreement that would satisfy each persom at the same time! Today we are happily enjoying our own company of 5 and the kids can’t wait for it!
  • I’m impressed with my two girls becoming so mature and aware of their own feelings and needs that I had no idea about before!
  • My teenage started to open herself to me after a totally silent period of couple of years!
  • It worked right away -after only the second meeting! – my 2 year old who had an every day morning meltdown – calmed down right away and got ready to school!
  • I used the active listening skill and my child who doesn’t speak yet – nestled up to me like never before! We made this special connection, he felt my suport and I know at this moment that his hug was a confirmation of feeling understood, accepted and loved.
  • My 8 year old talks to me about her struggles and then she is proudly informing me of how she is going to handle it! Before I would just tell her what to do next. I feel so proud and calm seeing her independency!
  • I’m excited about P.E.T. because I’m already making deeper and stronger connections with my kids and my wife! I wish I knew about it faster!
  • My son came to my to consult with his problems! I couldn’t believe it!
  • I don’t need to remind my family to keep doing their chores anymore! Even the screen time isn’t a big problem anymore!
  • The kids at school call me: “The teacher who never yells.” I’m eager to keep on using the skills!

To better understand the Parent Effectiveness Training Model:

This book and course offer a philosophy and set of communication and conflict resolution skills for helping parents develop and maintain a democratic, mutually satisfying relationships with their children and with each other. The conceptual model is the Behavior Window, a framework that Dr. Gordon developed for determining who owns the problem. Parents learn to use this window to help them to decide which skill to use depending on whose problem it is. There is heavy emphasis on learning the communication and conflict resolution skills so they can be used right away, both at home and in all relationships.

To organize your thoughts you can get this free graphic that will help you visualize the P.E.T. Model. Here’s also P.E.T. and screen time, and more about children and conflict. For more – go to Resources for Parents.
